Having his school background in rural Tamil Nadu, He completed his undergraduate study B.Sc. Chemistry from D. G. Vaishnav College, Chennai, and excelled in his studies. Subsequently, he pursued postgraduate studies from Gurunanak College and completed his master's degree in chemistry. He simultaneously completed his B.ed. from Annamalai University in 1993. He also went forward to attain his Ph.D in chemistry in 2001 from Presidency college, University of Madras, Chennai, India.
